A post-holiday reminder.

We're playing tomorrow night (Friday, December 28) at Subterranean with Inchworm, Tiger Surprise, and America's #1 Sweetheart. Kyle, Lizz, and Jon just completed recording vocals for the track "Station To Station" that will be included on a second version of the Gaily We Prance About EP. That's right, version 2.0 will have four songs instead of three. Many thanks to Mitch Cepaitis from Black Sheep Studios who was behind the boards for this most recent recording session. Check the "Live" section on the site as we have a show in February with Chicago's very own Sharkx.

Thanks.

Thanks again to all those who made it out last night to Ronny's for the Lance Hahn memorial benefit. We had a great time. Hope you did, too. Oh....thank you to Mt. St. Helens for letting us borrow your bass drum during the set. See you soon.

November 27, 2007

Hey everyone,

Just a quick reminder that we're going to play a Lance Hahn memorial benefit this Thursday night (11/29) at Ronny's in Logan Square. Joining us will be Dialogue, Mt. St. Helens, and the always-fantastic Lynyrd's Innards.

To honor Lance, each band will play a J Church song or two, and the $10 cover goes to the Gift Of Life Foundation for organ-donation awareness.

The show begins at 8 p.m. at Ronny's, located at 2101 N. California Ave., just south of Milwaukee and the California Blue Line stop. Please come out and help us pay tribute to one of punk's greats.

Let's Do It For Lance.

The details are coming together for our Lance Hahn Memorial Show and Benefit. Looks like it's going to be us, Dialogue, Mt. St. Helens, and Lynyrd's Innards at Ronny's Thursday, 11.29.2007. Lance wasn't Irish, but this will be an Irish wake of sorts, with booze, music, and plenty of J Church music by the bands on the bill and in the speakers between sets.

All proceeds will benefit organizations Lance supported, and that also goes for any sales of our split 7" with J Church. C'mon, it'll be a blast. Come out and celebrate the life of a punk-rock luminary.

The show will start around 8pm. More details to come over the next couple of weeks. See you there!

November 6, 2007

After a few months in hibernation, we have a couple of shows this month. Come out and see us.

October 23, 2007

Hey everyone,

Word is rapidly spreading through the grapevine that Lance Hahn, founder and frontman of the beloved J Church, passed away on Sunday (October 21) after a long illness. As a fan and friendly acquaintance of Lance's for 15 years, I'm crushed. J Church is one of my favorite bands, and their music occupies more space on my iPod than anyone else's – it should considering they released 10,549,420 albums.

Snd On Snd was truly honored to release a split 7" with J Church this year. While we're helping plan a memorial/benefit show, we want to help NOW. So, 100% of the proceeds from any order of our split will go to Lance's memorial fund. Send $6 (postage paid) via PayPal to Info@CMYKyle.com. You can also donate $$ directly at http://www.vulcanvideo.com. Please help!

We're already missing you, Lance...

September 27, 2007

Yes, it's been more than just a while. The Snd On Snd machine took the summer off, writing new material and will resume playing live shows soon. The
3-Song EP (yes, three songs, not four) should be available at shows and online next month. This self-release marks the first time all four current members appear together on a recording. Hope to see you all very soon.

July 12, 2007

Hello. It's been a while. Here's a little update.

We have a new 4-Song EP, Gaily We Prance About, set to release late summer 2007. Recorded this past April with Josh Shapera on the boards, this marks the first proper recording for Snd On Snd with the current solidified line-up. Our split 7" with J Church (URC-013) is also still available via Underground Communiqué Records. Yum, delicious pink vinyl.

April 28, 2007

Guitar and bass overdubs are complete. Kyle, Lizz, and Jon will head to Black Sheep Studios to complete the vocal portion of recording sometime next week.

April 6, 2007

Snd On Snd is in the studio (Engine Studios / Chicago, Illinois). Special thank you to Mitch Cepaitis (intern and assistant for "Colonel" Josh Shapera of Black Sheep Studios).

About

“Don’t take this the wrong way, but you guys sound straight out of the mid-’90s.”

Chicago music critic Tankboy meant that in a good way, and SND ON SND (pronounced “sound on sound”) took it as a compliment. That’s good, because it wouldn’t be the last time the Chicago band heard it. Apparently the four songs on the quartet’s 2007 debut EP, Gaily We Prance About, and the others SND ON SND plays live, tend to remind listeners of the halcyon days of Clinton administration indie rock, particularly the Midwestern variety.

Such a specific designation is increasingly rare. Not to get all nauseatingly nostalgic, but there was a time before the Internet when you could discern a band’s hometown by what came from the speakers. A band from New York didn’t sound the same as one from San Francisco or D.C. or Denver or Champaign—no one would confuse Versus for Jawbreaker or Jawbox or Christie Front Drive or Braid. Those bands (among others) heavily influenced SND ON SND when it came together in Chicago during the twilight of the Bush administration, years after that sound had apparently disappeared. “That’s OK,” another guy told SND ON SND, “because the ’90s are coming back.”

Regardless, SND ON SND don’t set out to write within a template. They just play melodic indie rock that favors punk, but loves a good pop hook, the occasional noisy freakout, and even tinges of the roots-rock that morphed into alt-country. It’s kind of messy and ill-defined, but isn’t all the best music that way?

SND ON SND is currently writing Gaily We Prance About’s successor, which they plan to record later this spring. In the meantime, they’ll perform live on WLUW’s Radio One program in late March or April and continue to play relentlessly around the Midwest—and beyond its cozy confines. Maybe they’ll remind people of the recent past, but they’ll mostly make fans in the present.
